1 cup all purpose flour, ¼ cup granulated sugar, 1 ½ tsp baking powder, ¼ cup salted butter
Add the ¼ cup buttermilk and 1 tsp vanilla extract and pulse only a few times till just combined. It is okay if streaks of flour are still visible during this stage.
¼ cup buttermilk, 1 tsp vanilla extract
Transfer the mixture to a bowl and carefully stir in the ½ cup chocolate chunks and ½ cup frozen cherries until evenly combined.
½ cup chocolate chunks, ½ cup frozen cherries
Lay the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and form into a round disk that is about 2 inches thick. Wrap the disk in plastic wrap and chill for 1 hour.
Once chilled, remove the disk from the plastic wrap and lay on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Use a sharp knife to cut the dough into 6 triangular pieces. Slightly separate the scones on the pan so that they don’t stick together during baking.
Use a pastry brush to brush a layer of 1/4 cup heavy cream onto the scones. This will help them come out of the oven golden brown.
1/4 cup heavy cream
Bake the scones for 20-25 minutes.
