Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ cup salted butter cold and cubed
  • ¼ cup buttermilk cold
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup chocolate chunks
  • ½ cup frozen cherries chopped
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  • In a food processor, add the 1 cup all purpose flour, ¼ cup granulated sugar, and 1 ½ tsp baking powder and lightly pulse to combine. Add the cubed ¼ cup salted butter and pulse until the butter is pea sized pieces.

  • Add the ¼ cup buttermilk and 1 tsp vanilla extract and pulse only a few times till just combined. It is okay if streaks of flour are still visible during this stage.

  • Transfer the mixture to a bowl and carefully stir in the ½ cup chocolate chunks and ½ cup frozen cherries until evenly combined.

  • Lay the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and form into a round disk that is about 2 inches thick. Wrap the disk in plastic wrap and chill for 1 hour.
  • Once chilled, remove the disk from the plastic wrap and lay on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Use a sharp knife to cut the dough into 6 triangular pieces. Slightly separate the scones on the pan so that they don’t stick together during baking.
  • Use a pastry brush to brush a layer of 1/4 cup heavy cream onto the scones. This will help them come out of the oven golden brown.
