Ingredients
  

For the batter:

  • 1 ½ cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup cake flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 3 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp allspice
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 ½ cup salted butter softened
  • 1 ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup apple cider
  • ¼ cup buttermilk

For the sugar:

  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the 1 ½ cups all purpose flour, 1 cup cake flour, 2 tsp baking powder, 3 tsp ground cinnamon, ½ tsp nutmeg, ¼ tsp allspice, and 1 tsp salt.

  • In the bowl of an electric mixture, cream together the 1 ½ cup salted butter, 1 ¼ cup brown sugar, and 1 cup granulated sugar on medium speed for about two minutes.

  • Add the 3 eggs one at a time, fully incorporating at low speed between each addition. Add the 2 tsp vanilla extract and incorporate on low speed.

  • Add the flour to the butter mixture and beat on low speed until incorporated. Pour in the ¼ cup buttermilk and ½ cup apple cider and beat on low speed for about 1 minute until a smooth and incorporated batter forms.

  • Grease a donut pan and fill each with batter.
  • Bake for 25 minutes. Let the donuts cool for 15 minutes in the pan before removing.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the ½ cup granulated sugar, ¼ tsp nutmeg, and 1 tbsp ground cinnamon.

  • Dip each donut into the sugar mixture to fully coat.
